No one is really wrecking Sunnyside; though Wreck City, a community of artists, is giving nine houses in the area a new look.

The nine houses in the Calgary community of are set for demolition but, thanks to a partnership with Bucci Developments Ltd., the buildings are playing their swan songs in a pretty spectacular way.

During our tour of the site with Caitlind Brown, one of the resident artists as well as the “town bylaw officer” and tourism expert, we had the opportunity to speak with several of the artists. Inspirations, goals for the space and overall hope for the success of the project were expressed differently by each.

Having created a miniature city amongst the nine houses, complete with a trading post for materials, this microcosm of artistry will inspire the artist, the child, the hipster, the whimsical and so much more in each of its visitors from April 19th-27th.

You can follow some of the artists progress on their own blogs, links can be found at the Wreck City Blog
