With the completion of the SAM Awards March 29, Morrison Homes emerged as Builder of the Year for 2013.
For the last 27 years, the awards — an event of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) — have celebrated Calgary and area’s construction industry with this year’s event seeing a record 776 submissions from various members.
“Once again, the new home industry in Calgary continues to amaze,” said Shane Wenzel, co-chair of the SAM committee for CHBA – Calgary Region in a release. “No matter the economy, no matter whether builders are busy, the industry puts out their best year after year.”
Other Grand SAM awards included Builder of Merit going to Empire Custom homes, Multi-Family Builder of the Year going to Jayman Group of Companies, Renovator of the Year to Albi Renova Ltd. and Partner of the Year to PHI Systems.
“When you have such a competitive industry like we have here in Calgary, everyone puts out their best – and the homebuyers are the winners,” said Wenzel.
The SAM award process includes volunteer industry peers judging submissions and awarding points in various categories. The top five in each category receive additional points to help determine Grand SAM winners.
“These prestigious awards are taken very seriously by us and those in the industry,” said Wendy Going, SAM co-chairman in a release. “That’s why the competition is so well respected in the industry – and why homebuyers look for the SAM birds from the builders who have soared high enough to capture the silver goose. The winners are truly the best-of-the-best in the Calgary region.”
Other winners at this year’s awards included Hopewell Residential Management for Show Home Parade of the Year and Community of the Year City of Calgary; Watermark Development for Community of the Year Calgary Region; Brookfield Residential for Best Innovation; Homes by Avi Urban for Best Multi-Family Community and Remington Development Corporation for Best Apartment-Style Condo.
The CHBA-Calgary Region is a not-for-profit organization with a membership of more than 640 companies representing new home construction and professional companies involved in home building.
