Popular southeast lake community continues to grow
Carrie and Kevin Wilde moved to Calgary’s southeast lake community of Mahogany six years ago with their four children – Tasia, Camebridge, Nicholas and Peirson – and the family pooch, Charlotte. The community’s architecture, lake, wetlands and extensive pathway system that connects it all attracted the family. But now that they are settled in (the kids have grown up in the area and now range in age from 15 to 21), Carrie Wilde says Mahogany is about more than the amenities.
“There are so many community events – ladies’ nights are the best – and the overall community feel is second to none,” she said.

That is just what Hopewell Residential, the developer behind the community, had in mind when it created the vision for Mahogany.
“When Mahogany first launched 10 years ago, we sought to create a community like no other,” said Nicole McLaws, marketing manager for Hopewell Residential. “Somewhere vibrant, walkable and inclusive – a community that is truly unique.”
Currently, almost 10,000 people call Mahogany home, and McLaws says the next five years will usher in the release of new lots, showhomes, parks and even more shopping and dining.
“It will only continue to get better and better,” she said.
- The 63-acre, man-made Mahogany Lake offers two private beach sites and over 21 acres of beach area.
- The Mahogany Beach Club, with its 22,000 square feet of activity space and bevy of outdoor attractions, including paddle boarding and ice skating, is at the heart of the community.
- West Beach, the community’s second beach amenity area, features picnic tables, a playground, beach volleyball and basketball courts, a fire pit, a dock and a day complex.
Fun Fact Mahogany is home to Calgary’s largest freshwater lake and has more beach area than any other community in the city.
