Calgary Transit rolls out automated system

Calgary Transit is looking to make getting around a little easier for its bus passengers.

Early this month, transit rolled out the first phase of a real time bus information system. The phase consists of on-board audio/visual announcements of major upcoming stops along local bus routes. In total, the project cost $15 million. "We'll begin to test it on a number of buses and then in the next few months we'll be rolling it out to a simultaneous test on the whole fleet," said Chris Jordan, manager of strategic planning with Calgary Transit.

"This system is going to allow our passengers eventually to see where a bus is in real time so they'll see where it is relative to the exact scheduled time and it will give them an indication of where we're at during unforeseen delays," he added. "It's particularly handy for customers during the winter when unforeseen impacts happen during the buses scheduled route."

People can either grab a feedback form from transit operators or call 403-262-1000 to give their say on the new system.
