Blood drive to honour former REALTOR

In the words of her younger brother Tej, Gudi Gill touched a lot of people.

"She was the kind of person you only needed to meet once," Tej said.

A 15-year member of CREB, Gudi passed away in a tragic accident on August 19, 2013. Before her passing, Gudi received many units of blood in both Red Deer and Edmonton hospitals. While those units weren't enough to save Gudi, they kept her organs functioning and in return, those organs were donated to three recipients who are living healthy lives today.

In order to bring awareness to the importance of giving blood and donating organs, Tej is behind a memorial blood clinic drive in honour of Gudi.

"Technically, when you pass away, you've left," said Tej. "You're just a vessel so why take it with you? Somebody else can use your body parts, heart, liver."

The clinic takes place Sept. 5 at Cardel Place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with appointments recommended.

"It takes 50 units of blood to save one auto accident victim," said a statement from the Gill family. "We are requesting that you give the gift of life back to someone who needs it."

To make an appointment visit blood.ca or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
