Cochrane property assessments increase

Cochrane saw an increase of 5.27 per cent in its residential property value in 2014.

A release from the town said property values reflect the national trend of 5.9 per cent, though increases vary depending on property types. Single-family dwellings increase 6.32 per cent, duplexes and row houses increased 7.41 per cent and condos increased 1.98 per cent. The property assessments are based on a home's typical market value on July 1, 2014 and its physical characteristics and condition as of Dec. 31, 2014.

The release said Cochrane had 11,640 parcels as of Dec. 31, up from 10,760 at the end of 2013.

Property owners can see their assessments on the Town website and compare with other local properties. Anyone with questions can call 403-851-2950 or email assessment@cochrane.ca.

The deadline for property assessment appeals is March 30.
