Calgary and Cochrane fire responses join forces

The Town of Cochrane announced April 14 it has signed a service agreement with the City of Calgary for fire response.

In the case of such an agreement, each municipality maintains jurisdiction within their borders and identifies the circumstances under which they'll ask for assistance from neighbouring municipalities. "A great deal of thought and consideration goes into all the agreements we have with our neighbours," said Mac deBeaudrap, senior manager of Cochrane Emergency Services. "We're always happy to help when we're asked and we welcome [Calgary's] help when we need it here in Cochrane."

Along with the signing of the Calgary agreement, Cochrane now has service agreements in place with Rocky View County, MD of Bighorn, Ghost Village, Waiporous, Redwood Meadows and Alberta Sustainable Resource Development.

"The goal is always to help each other, provide appropriate emergency response for our communities and maintain manageable costs for our taxpayers," said Cochrane Mayor Ivan Brooker.
